The Ancient Library is a serious, accessible and multilingual digital source library for early Stoicism. Where The Stoic Journal explains and the Academy teaches, the Ancient Library shows the surviving evidence itself: the ancient Greek and Latin passages through which early Stoic thought has reached us — each identified, classified, translated and interpreted with care.

Nothing here is invented. Every entry identifies the ancient author who preserves the passage, the language in which it actually survives, and how strong the evidence really is: direct quotation, fragment, testimonium or later report. Where a verified text or translation is not yet available, the entry says so — accuracy takes priority over completeness.

About this edition

StoicOs Ancient Library is a developing multilingual digital study edition of surviving early Stoic material. The Stoicorum Veterum Fragmenta assembled by Hans von Arnim provides the traditional reference framework. StoicOs distinguishes carefully between fragments, testimonia, later reports and interpretation. StoicOs translations are prepared from the surviving ancient-language sources where available.
