Terms of Use

Effective date: 26 July 2026 · Last updated: 28 July 2026

1. Who we are

StoicOs.ai and the app are operated by Ed Korporaal, trading as StoicOs.ai, established in the Netherlands. Contact: ek@stoicos.ai. By creating an account or using the service you agree to these Terms of Use.

2. Scope of the service

These terms apply to the StoicOs.ai website (including the Stoic Journal, the Academy, the Living Library and My StoicOs) and to the mobile application. Both use one shared StoicOs.ai account. The service offers philosophical study material, reflective journaling tools and AI-assisted exercises based on Stoic philosophy.

3. Account registration and security

You need an account for the personal parts of the service (My StoicOs, My Journal, Academy progress, ). You must provide accurate information, be at least 16 years old and keep your password confidential. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account. Notify us at ek@stoicos.ai immediately if you suspect unauthorised use of your account.

4. Educational and reflective purpose

StoicOs.ai and are educational and reflective tools. They help you study Stoic philosophy and practise structured self-reflection. They are aids for personal development — nothing more, and nothing less.

5. No medical or professional advice

The service does not provide medical, psychological, therapeutic, legal or financial advice, and is not a substitute for professional care. AI-generated responses are automatically produced reflections on philosophical texts and may be incomplete or inaccurate. If you are struggling with your mental health, please contact a qualified professional or your general practitioner. In an emergency, call your local emergency number (112 in the Netherlands).

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to: (a) use the service for anything unlawful; (b) attempt to gain unauthorised access to accounts, systems or data of others; (c) scrape, overload or disrupt the service; (d) upload content that is unlawful, hateful or infringes the rights of others; (e) resell or commercially exploit the service without written permission; (f) misuse the AI features to generate harmful content. We may take reasonable measures against misuse.

7. Intellectual property

All content created by StoicOs.ai — including articles, lessons, exercises, translations, design and branding — is the property of Ed Korporaal, trading as StoicOs.ai, or is used under licence. Classical texts by Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus are in the public domain; our editions, translations and commentary are not. You receive a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the service for private, non-commercial purposes.

8. Your journal and your content

Everything you write in My Journal, the Academy exercises and remains yours. You retain full ownership of your own content. You grant us only the limited licence that is technically necessary to store, display, back up and process your content in order to provide the service to you. We do not sell your content, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use it to train AI models. This licence ends when your content is deleted.

9. Free Founding Member phase

The service is currently in its free Founding Member phase: the features offered today are available free of charge. This phase is temporary. We do not guarantee that all features will remain free or available indefinitely.

10. Future paid services

Paid subscriptions or features may be introduced in the future. You will never be charged silently: paid services will only apply after clear prior information about price and conditions, and only with your explicit agreement. Existing content you created remains accessible to you or exportable on request, regardless of whether you choose a paid plan.

11. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the service available and to improve it continuously, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of every feature at all times. Features may be changed, added or withdrawn. For material changes that significantly affect you, we will inform you where reasonably possible.

12. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, abuse the service or create security risks — where reasonable, after a warning. You may stop using the service at any time.

13. Account deletion

You can initiate permanent deletion of your account directly in the app via My StoicOs → Danger Zone → Delete Account. You can also request deletion at any time by emailing ek@stoicos.ai from the email address linked to your account. Every deletion request — whether started in-app or by email — is completed within 30 days, after which your account and the personal data associated with it are removed from the active database. See the Privacy Policy for details on what is deleted and how.

14. Limitation of liability

The service is provided 'as is'. To the extent permitted by Dutch law, our liability for indirect damage, loss of data or lost profits is excluded, and our total liability for direct damage is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months before the event (currently: zero, during the free phase). Nothing in these terms limits liability for intent or gross negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by Dutch law. Disputes will be submitted to the competent court in the Netherlands, unless mandatory law provides otherwise. If any provision of these terms is invalid, the remainder remains in force.

16. Contact
