Stoic Training · Part 6

The Judgment of Others

You cannot please everyone. You don't need to.

Most anxiety about other people is anxiety about their opinions — one of the clearest examples of what the Stoics called “not up to us”. This training turns that insight into five daily habits.

The training

  1. 1. Live by your own values

You know your principles. You know what is right. Live by them — not for approval.

  2. 2. Others see through their own lens

They don't see your full story. They judge through their past, their pain, their limits. Their judgment is not your truth.

  3. 3. Control what you can

Your actions. Your standards. Your mindset. Not their opinions. Focus inward. Ignore the noise.

  4. 4. Approval is a trap

If you seek it, you lose power. Freedom begins when you stop needing it.

  5. 5. Character over impression

Opinions fade. Who you are remains. Choose character. Let the rest go.

Mantra

You do not need an easier life. You need a stronger mind. Stay calm. Stay true to yourself. That is Stoic freedom.
